Japan successfully developed a 5 kW windless coreless generator

Japan's Sky Electronics (headquarters: Sakagawacho, Kochi Prefecture) has successfully developed the wind turbine "SKY-G600", which will start production in mid-February 2006 (BTO). The rated output power is 5 kW at 300 rpm. It is capable of generating approximately 2.5 times the power of the old model "SKY-G450". The price is 120 yen (excluding tax).

In order to increase the magnetic density of the linkage with the coil, a conventional generator usually employs a method of winding a coil on a core. The "SKY Generator" series, including the G600, uses a coreless construction in which both the rotor and the stator do not use iron cores. This reduces Cogging Torque and reduces noise and vibration. The original coreless generator never exceeded 1 kW in rated output power. However, due to the implementation of the "Kyoto Protocol" and the demand for high-power generators, the generator was developed.

The reason why a high voltage can also be generated at a low speed rotation is to form a multipole structure using a rare earth magnet. Moreover, unlike ordinary generators, an outer rotor structure in which the rotor rotates outside the stator is employed. This configuration has less electrical contact, which improves durability.

The G600 has an outer diameter of 60 mm and a width of 83 mm. The weight is 95kg. Due to its small size, it can also be placed on the roof of a building. In addition, it can also be used for small-scale hydropower generation.
