Global carbon black demand shifts eastward

The latest market research report of the Friedonia Group predicts that in the next three years, the global demand for carbon black will increase at an average annual rate of 4.3%, reaching approximately 11.6 million tons by 2013. The growth of sales of carbon black products in the Asia-Pacific region is the strongest, and the demand for carbon black in the world is moving eastward.
The report predicts that sales of specialty carbon black will increase at an average annual rate of 5.9%, and will reach 1.2 million tons by 2013. From the perspective of total consumption, the total amount of specialty carbon black will be less than 10% of the total global carbon black demand, but the price per kilogram of product is much higher than that of common carbon black products. Therefore, carbon black manufacturers will use more investment for the research and development of specialty carbon black products.
According to the report, carbon black production in North America and Western Europe accounted for 48% of world production in 1998, and it will only account for 23% by 2013. In 1998, the production of carbon black in the Asia-Pacific region accounted for only 36% of the world's total production. By 2013, it will reach 57%. China will continue to be the fastest growing demand for carbon black in the world, followed by India. In addition, China and India will also be the two countries with the largest increase in carbon black production capacity, and this trend is expected to continue into 2013. Although the demand for carbon black in Western Europe has recently declined, it will rebound in the future, but the growth rate will still lag behind the global average.
