China's wind power capacity growth will slow

China’s renewable energy wind power professional committee chairman Shi Pengfei announced on the 24th China New Energy Grid Integration Summit in Beijing on the 24th that the installed capacity of wind power in China will slow down in the future.

Shi Pengfei said that this depends first on the huge installed base of wind power.

From 2006 to 2009, the cumulative growth rate of China's wind power installed capacity exceeded 100% each year, with an average of 113%.

The goal of the Medium- and Long-Term Development Plan for Renewable Energy released by the National Development and Reform Commission of China in September 2007 is 30GW of wind power installed capacity in 2020. The latest data provided by the Wind Energy Professional Committee of the Chinese Renewable Energy Society shows that China’s cumulative installed capacity in 2010 has reached 44.7GW.

This means that China has exceeded 14.7GW in advance in 10 years to achieve wind power goals in the medium and long-term development plans for renewable energy.

Shi Pengfei also stated that the slowdown in China's wind power installation capacity growth is also limited by the capacity of the power grid.

In the "Long-Term Development Plan for Renewable Energies", the target of wind power planning in 2010 is 5 million kilowatts, but in 2009 alone, the newly installed capacity of wind power reached more than 13 million kilowatts, and the cumulative installed capacity exceeded 25 million kilowatts. The power grid is developed according to the previous plan and cannot keep pace with the rapid momentum of wind power installation. The power grid has become an important constraint and development bottleneck for the development of wind power in China.

China has abundant wind energy resources. According to the latest data from the Wind Energy Solar Resource Assessment Center of the China Meteorological Administration, the potential development of onshore wind energy in China is 2.38 billion kilowatts, and the potential development of offshore wind energy is 200 million kilowatts.

Shi Pengfei said: "China should compare the actual cost of offshore wind power with the cost of transporting western wind power to coastal areas. If the cost of wind power from Gansu and Xinjiang to the coast is lower than the cost of local offshore wind power, priority should be given to the development of western wind energy resources. ."

“After completing the wind power development plan based on wind energy resources, available land, and Other local conditions, China will deploy wind power transmission, energy storage, and sales programs from the national power system, and adjust the national plan on this basis. "Shi Pengfei said.

The Chinese government pledged at the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen in December 2009 that China's non-fossil energy will account for 15% of primary energy consumption by 2020. Shi Pengfei said that responding to climate change and fulfilling emission reduction commitments are driving factors for China's development of wind power in the next 10 years.

He said that China's grid-connected wind power equipment manufacturing companies have basically mastered the manufacturing technology of megawatt wind turbines.

“In 2010, China's grid-connected wind power equipment manufacturing industry grew rapidly, and the newly added capacity of the top ten domestic wind turbine manufacturers reached 87% of the newly added capacity market share,” said Shi Pengfei.

In 2010, the production of grid-connected wind turbines in China increased rapidly. The annual output of Sinovel, Goldwind and Dongfang Electric Wind Turbine exceeds 4GW, 3GW and 2GW respectively, and the combined power and Mingyang wind power also exceed 1GW respectively. A total of more than 40 complete plant products have been put on the market, forming a market competition pattern.
