The Michelin India Plant produces the first batch of truck tires in 2012

Michelin said that the company plans to recruit another 1,250 employees for its upcoming Chennai facility in India. At the same time, the company said that the Chennai plant in India is expected to begin production of the first batch of passenger and truck tires in November 2012.

The report said that two years ago the company had announced that it would invest about 40 billion Indian rupees (about 880 million U.S. dollars) to build a Chennai plant in India. It is reported that the plant covers an area of ​​about 290 acres, and it has started construction. It mainly produces truck and bus radial tires for the Indian market.

In December 2010, Michelin stated that it plans to recruit 1,500 employees in the factory. So far, the factory has recruited about 250 employees. According to Michelin's previous recruitment plan, the factory will recruit another 1,250 employees in the next few years.

Pete Selleck, director of the Michelin Global Card Bus Business Unit, said that the company plans to produce 300,000 tires locally in India, and the company’s ultimate goal is to increase its tire production capacity in India to 2 million. However, he did not explain how much time it takes to achieve this goal.
