Daily maintenance of automotive generators:

1. After the vehicle has traveled a certain distance, adjust the tightness of the generator belt properly and fix the alignment screws as required. The tripod screws of the generator should maintain a certain degree of tightness.

Second, pay attention to the degree of bearing wear, if you find lack of lubrication, you can drop a few drops of oil from the mouth of the oil cup, be careful not to infiltrate the rectifier, otherwise affect the power transfer effect.

Third, the rectifier fouling can be polished with a fine emery cloth.

Fourth, the brush contact surface is uneven, can be used to level with fine abrasive cloth. The elasticity of the spring is insufficient. When the brush wears too much, new parts must be replaced. The brush is too short to break, and it can be inserted into the bracket with a gasket to make it close to the rectifier.

5. The brush holder insulator is damaged and you need to add a new one.

6. The pole of the generator should be loosened and must be fastened immediately. If it is poorly insulated, it should be removed for trimming.

7. If the generator fails in the middle and is not too far from the destination, the wire of the magnetic field coil voltage regulator may be removed. If the generator is a three-brush generator, the third brush must be removed to make the generator not Power generation. Use battery power to supply power. At this time, electricity should be saved as much as possible.

Eight, the dust ring on the generator should be solid, it should not be removed, to dust into the interior, resulting in mechanical failure.

9. Always clean the wires and keep them dry to prevent leakage.

Diagnosing method of generator not generating electricity during driving:

First, the appearance of the check: carefully check the generator, regulator, ignition switch whether the line loose, the generator is fixed, whether the triangle belt loose or oil slipping and so on.

Second, check the regulator: the two wire together (that is, the ignition switch to the regulator, regulator to the generator magnetic field terminal line), start the vehicle if the power generation, it means that the fault in the regulator (white gold contact ablation, Contact spring pull weak or resistance blow, etc.).

Third, check the generator: Remove the magnetic field terminal wire of the generator, turn on the ignition switch, the removed thread on the magnetic field post touch scratch, if there is a blue-white spark, indicating that the magnetic field circuit is good. If there is no spark, the brush is not in contact or the magnetic field coil is open.

Fourth, using a screwdriver at the rear end of the generator (201 bearing cap), check for magnetic attraction. The normal generator should have obvious suction, if there is no suction or weak suction, it means the excitation circuit is faulty.

5. Bearing looseness, deformation of the end cap, and bending of the armature shaft can cause rubbing of the “broom”, causing the coil to ablate and the generator not working properly.
Check Alternator with Test Light: When diagnosing the fault of the alternator, in addition to measuring with the instrument, a test light method can also be used. When it is determined that there is no charging failure, the engine may not be started first, the ignition switch may be turned on, the stylus at one end of the test lamp may be connected to the field terminal of the generator, and the stylus at the other end may touch the housing of the generator. On, indicating that the battery to the generator field terminals are conducting. At this time, the conductors on the armature terminal of the generator can be removed, the engine can be started, and one end of the test lamp can be contacted with the armature terminal; the other end can touch the generator housing and the engine can be slightly higher than the idling test. ) If the test light is off (see Figure 50), or the light is weak, there is a fault inside the generator.
